Paving on Swanson Street a sign of things to come?

Have you seen that a large patch of Swanson Street between Target and ShopRite has been repaved? You may remember that we recently brought you the news that Adventurer’s Mini Golf was coming in May to 38 Jackson St. in Whitman and with it potential improvements to the street experience on Swanson Street.

According to Councilman Mark Squilla, those plans are in the works and this paving is part of a bigger plan.

“I have been meeting with the Streets Department and Conrail on street improvements and a master plan for Swanson [Street],” Councilman Squilla wrote in an email. He also mentioned that potholes will continued to be filled along Swanson Street and that they look to hopefully re-stripe the stretch south of Snyder Avenue.

The paving of this large patch, which used to house a few yellow oil drums as a caution to drivers, is a welcome sight for those traveling in and around the Snyder Plaza and a sign of the improvements to come.

This news, coupled with the opening of the 2300 Arena and on-going construction at South Bowl means everything is coming up Swanson Street at the moment.

Glad the potholes are getting fixed and a master plan being considered.. It felt like driving in Camden with all those devastating street obstacles.. (Camden has no funding to pave their roads anymore)

I sure hope this new master plan doesn’t have any half concocted obstructive bump-outs on the corners… Thats a great way to hinder people from getting around slow moving busses, trash trucks, and tractor trailers… A great way to make it another place we look to avoid like the disaster at 16th & Snyder… And please… NO MORE DIRT ISLANDS THAT SERVE NO PURPOSE!!!
