School Talk: Help Jackson Elementary build this new rooftop playground; fundraiser on Thursday
Editor’s Note: School Talk is an occasional feature that will look at education and parenting issues in South Philly. If you have concerns, ideas, suggested topics or other thoughts about the state of schools and ways to keep improving them, email us at punk@passyunkpost.com.
Weighing in this time is Tom Wyatt, education committee chair for the Passyunk Square Civic Association.
While the news from the school district continues to be grim, we in Passyunk Square continue to nurture and support our neighborhood schools because we know that great schools equal great neighborhoods.
On Thursday, May 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Wharton Lofts (1148 Wharton St.), the PSCA is supporting the exciting improvement at Jackson Elementary by sponsoring a cocktail party, hosted by Alterra Property Group. The newly formed Friends of Jackson group has joined forces with the PSCA and Alterra for an event that promises to help build a much-needed playground for Jackson students.
They are aiming to raise $65,000 to build the playground.
Tickets to the party are $100 each. There is also a $250 ticket option that gets you an entry into a raffle. The raffle items include a choice of 4 lower-level tickets to any Phillies home game in the 2014 season and a night at the Union League or 4 lower-level tickets to any Eagles home game in the 2014 season!
You can find more information and buy tickets by clicking here. And if you can’t make it, you can still contribute to the effort by sending a donation to the address on the flier below.
