Spotted: Check out these ‘garden sticks’ at South Philly High
We happened to be passing South Philly High recently and noticed these neat little vertical gardens lined up along Broad Street.
Molly Devinney, of the Lower Moyamensing Civic Association, said the “garden sticks” are planted with flowers, vegetables and herbs. They were donated by Urban Jungle and designed and painted by Southern’s students through a City Year service project.
Speaking of South Philly High, Devinney said that other elements of the school’s master greening plan, including a planned “Roofmeadow,” a dog park and improvements to the school’s grounds, are coming along.
Funding is still being secured, but she noted in an email that “we are definitely on track to accomplish phase 1 (ground-level construction) next summer.”
