Sign up for (or sponsor) the South Philly Co-op’s 4th annual garden tour
Everyone’s favorite theoretical grocery store, the South Philly Food Co-op, is planning its 4th annual garden tour, and it’s looking for participants and sponsors.
The tour, one of the co-op’s most successful fundraisers each year, includes 10 to 15 houses or gardens for a whole bunch of curious, well-meaning neighbors to see. This year’s event will span several neighborhoods — parts of Bella Vista, Queen Village, Pennsport, Dicksinson Square West — from Fitzwater to Moore streets, 2nd to 10th streets.

On a side note, you’re probably wondering about when this store will become less theoretical. We hear that the real estate committee gave a presentation about the requirements for a retail space to a membership meeting in the spring and that they’ve been looking at lots of spaces. The co-op was also waiting to reach the threshhold of 600 members to sign a lease, and they reached that goal in May.
So, really, any day now…
When is this coop goona get a space they have over 600 members. The Kensington coop was able to get it done with 200 less members

First, we want to again congratulate our friends in Kensington on identifying a home. We are excited by the great successes of all the Philly Co-ops.
According to our timeline for opening, we have always held 600 as the membership level we would need to secure a location. We are thrilled that we have now surpassed that goal so we are in the right position as we work to identify the right location in the very active South Philadelphia real estate market.
