A-Number-1: Gennaro’s Tomato Pie takes the title as ‘Best Pizza in Pennsylvania’

The good news just keeps on a-rollin’ in for Gennaro’s Tomato Pie at 1429 Jackson St.

Gennaro's sign
A-number-1 in the entire state.

While you already know they’re moving into a bigger, more prominent space at the former Da Vinci spot at 1533 S. 11th St. sometime within 2015, Thillist recently named Gennaro’s the Best Pizza in the entire state of Pennsylvania. Considering they’ve only been open for about two years, that’s some lofty recognition.

Thillist, a website that combines all kinds of regional food-, drink- and pop culture-focused content, had this to say about the South Philly pizzeria:

Philadelphia’s got some legit classic Italian cred (as well as some innovative spots like Pizzeria Beddia and Pizza Brain), so this was a tough call, but we’ve gotta hand it to South Philly’s relative newcomer Gennaro’s. It’s got a pedigree that can be traced from America’s first pizza joint (Lombardi’s, also one of Little Italy’s best), and serves up simple, awesome pies with whole-milk mozzarella and crushed tomatoes.

It was about a month ago that we brought you the news that Gennaro’s would me moving into the former Da Vinci Ristorante spot across from the signing fountain. The new location will be BYO and offer courtyard seating. Future plans for the Jackson St. storefront are unknown at this time.

Love yourself some Gennaro’s? Here’s how to reheat it properly.

Somebody has no life and likes to post stuff using my name… “Imitation is the greatest form of flattery”…. Unfortunately I loathe most chain restaurants… So your lazy attempts at imitation are lame. You can’t have a discussion, so you resort to using my name to clown me. Coward.

      Anyway,

This place is going to be perfect on Passyunk! You won’t be able to walk that block without gaining 10 pounds with the great cluster of food choices surrounding that square!
