First Pics: Benna’s West now open at Broad and Dickinson
Back in November we told you about Benna’s coffee shop opening a third location in South Philly, but this time on the west-side of Broad Street.
The new location, aptly named Benna’s West, is now open in the aluminum-clad storefront at 1444 S. Broad St.
The location had been vacant for a few years, but was previously occupied by a Metro PCS store and prior to that it was a medical supply store.
The coffee shop has space for about 30 people with tables and bar-style seating along the windows.
One major attraction at Benna’s West is this huge mural done with Sharpies by artist Lisa Conn. Originally owner Nancy Trachtenberg was planning to have this wall as a canvas for new murals completed by different artists on a regular basis, but Trachtenberg says she might like this mural too much to let it go.
With two other locations in South Philly already, you might be wondering why owner Nancy Trachtenberg decided to open a third location in the area. According to Trachtenberg, you shouldn’t have to travel more than three blocks to go to your daily coffee shop. Her opening Benna’s West is meant to further expand her clientele to include more people on the west-side of Broad.
There currently is no exterior signage on Benna’s West, but they will soon be adding steel letters to the exterior with the shop’s name.
While much of what Benna’s West is offering is the same as what Benna’s and B2 offer, there will be some new additions at this location. Benna’s West will be offering in-house baked goods, including vegan and gluten-free offerings, along with adding salads and various seasonal specials to the menu.
Hours for Benna’s West are from 7 a.m. through 8 p.m. You can find more information on Benna’s West’s Facebook page.
Very nice. Congratulations. Can’t wait to visit.
Maybe the baristas will be nicer in this one? :-/
Thanks Joan. Great photos. Wished I lived in Philly to taste all those goodies. Wow, Nancy looks a lot like you! She turned out great-congrats Joan and Steve.
Went here the other day and the flow is SO much better at this location. It felt bright and airy, loved the mural.
