First Pics: Stargazy serving up British baked goods at 1838 E. Passyunk Ave.
For just about a month now, Stargazy has been open at 1838 E. Passyunk Ave. in the former Ms. Goody Cupcake location, serving up a variety of British baked goods.
This new spot from Chef Sam Jacobson is bringing things like meat pies, mash and eels to the restaurant scene on East Passyunk Avenue.
The main attraction of Stargazy is their meat pies. There are traditional options, vegetarian options and occasionally specials. On this particular day, the braised oxtail cheesesteak was on special.
In addition to the savory meat pies, there are also sweet options. On this day, fig tarts were among the desert options.
If you’re stopping in here to eat, you can also help yourself to a free cup of tea. Because the tea is free, Jacobson has decided to set up a donation jar near the tea and each month the money in it will be donated to a different charity. This month, the money is being raised for Alzheimer’s Awareness.
The front counter includes a mural from Isaiah Zagar.
If you’re planning on stopping by Stargazy, the earlier in the day is probably better. Even though the business has set hours, they are only open until they sell out–which has been pretty quick on some days.
Stargazy is open from Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can check out Stargazy on Facebook and Instagram.
Food is excellent here. And the owner is really down to earth and friendly. It has my support in becoming a fixture on EP.
Prediction: in 1-2 years they’ll be moving to a bigger space. This shop is a great idea, and the pie I had was delicious.
Completely agree. This stuff is so good. Maybe in a bigger location they can add fish and chips!
A straight up chip shop would be awesome.
I got a veggie pie to go. It was delicious BUT it was really small and cost $7. That seems nuts to me. I would need 3 to make a meal.
