Locally-owned grocery store in the works across from former dairy on McKean Street

Abbott’s Alderney Dairy has been seeing a complete renovation. Owners Anna Maria Vona and husband Carmen of Carmana Designs have been in the process of bringing new life to this historic building. While not part of the structure of the dairy, they also own the smaller building across the street.

The future is looking bright for that structure, with a new, locally-owned grocery store expected to open here. Rowhouse Grocery + Lunch, a collaboration of four Point Breeze residents, is in the works for 1713 McKean St.

This store has goals to become an affordable place to buy local produce and pantry items. The four individuals involved with starting this business all have experience within the food service industry and hope to use those skills for the benefit of this new business.

The project is still very much in the planning stages with the acquisition of the necessary variances and permits to make this a reality. They will be presenting some preliminary plans at  Guerin Rec Center on Monday, April 25 at 7 p.m. If things go as planned, they hope to open in fall or winter of 2016.

Expect to see updates as Rowhouse Grocery moves forward.

This is going to be great! I got the notice of the zoning meeting last week. I will be at the meeting to support this project.
