El Paisano food market to open in former Rita’s location
It has been close to two years since Rita’s Italian ice closed at 1352-56 E. Passyunk Ave. We had spotted some activity there back in January, but since then there have been few signs of what’s to come.
A neighborhood tipster spotted signage for a supermarket called El Paisano that will be coming to the location.
At this time we don’t have much information on the opening date or plans. El Paisano is the name of a small grocery located at 1345 E. Passyunk Ave. That location has produce, a butcher and other goods that you may need to buy while grocery shopping.
We’ll keep you updated as we learn more about the plans for this location.
This episode of Spotted is from a neighborhood tipster. If you see something, say something – in an email to punk@passyunkpost.com
Next to Passyunk Market and the Acme. Great idea.
I thought the same thing when I first saw the sign before then seeing that their current, smaller location is literally within sight of this one. I imagine they’ll do fine catering to a market of Latino customers who don’t feel served by either Acme or Passyunk Market. If anything this shows more how the Acme could be doing a better job making the store more of an option for the Latino population in the neighborhood.
Awesome! I’ve been looking all over for a place to grab a mango Jarito.
Ugh, I was really hoping for something a bit better like a Giant or a Wegman’s.
On a serious note, that location used to be DeNic’s Roast Pork. Sad.
Not another Mexican junk market. There is only 500 in south philly.
I wanted a Rita’s to come back. Hopefully it puts Acme out of business, it’s terrible!
*DiNic’s!
PLEASE tell me “El Paisano’s” is Spanish for “Trader Joe’s”….
It’s MexoWegman’s!
El Paisano Supermarket #1!!!!!!
