Torta shop from South Philly Barbacoa opening later this month

South Philly Barbacoa recently cut back its hours to weekends-only, which was a disappointment to many customers of the highly-praised restaurant.

Soon you’ll be able to enjoy tortas on weekdays again from co-owner of South Philly Barbacoa, Christina Martinez, and her son, Isaias Berriozabal. Their new shop, called El Compadre, is expected to open in the former Los Taquitos de Puebla location at 1149 S. 9th St. on October 24.

From The Insider:

El Compadre will offer chorizo con papas (chorizo with potatoes), jamon de pavo (turkey-ham), pollo en mole poblano (chicken in mole poblano), albondigas en mole verde (pork meatballs in green mole), queso doble crema (a rich Mexican cheese), and huevos revueltos (scrambled eggs).

Five of the tortas were available at South Philly Barbacoa before its menu was tightened two months ago. The egg sandwich is new. All recipes are as they were.

Hours will be weekdays from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
