Spotted: East Passyunk Community Center has a new sign, official name
For 25 years, the community center at 11th and Mifflin was run by Tolentine. In the summer of 2015, it was decided by the city that their lease would not be renewed.
The center then went through some changes, both in appearance and programming. After a year of changes, the center finally has a new sign and an official name.
On Wednesday, November 2, the East Passyunk Community Center’s sign was installed.
In addition to the signage, a new website has been launched for the center. You can find more information on the community center’s programming here.
Until that ugly black fence comes down and they turn this into an actual “community” center the name is a shame. They should just use the funding to plaster more “no dog” signs around the place.
They promised the gate would come down, and we would get a dog park, and LGBTQx programming, and NONE of those have been delivered.
Yes. It feels like the same private club, only now run by “neighborhood” jerks. All they did was change the name and add a daycare.
Where are you getting this information?
1) Fence removal was discussed, but never promised.
2) The site was NEVER considered for a dog park. Maybe you’ve mixed it up with Columbus Square?
3) There was an event for LBTQ history month/National Coming Out Day.
Finally, there is no “they” in the word “Community.” If you live in the area, it’s YOUR community center…GET INVOLVED and help shape what happens.
I was at every EPX meeting prior to the hostile takeover. King Marino himself said the gates would come down and he would have a place to walk that little mongrel of his.
So where are YOU getting YOUR information. Were you there too?
So glad I moved from this toxic little enclave and their hive mind…
I like it. It’s precise. It’s logical. Much better than the previous EPCRC. Well done and best wishes!!
