South Philly Food Co-op has finally signed a lease on a location
It’s finally happening. Your favorite theoretical grocery store has signed a lease on a location.
The details are under wraps until next week, but after years of planning and fundraising, the South Philly Food Co-op grocery store you have all been waiting for is coming to life.
Since 2012, we’ve reported on their membership goals and plans to open this co-op grocery store. They have been searching for a location for years, but finding a perfect space proved to be a bit difficult. Last year the co-op then expanded its search area to as far west as 23rd Street and as far south as Oregon Avenue, for a space between 3,500 and 5,000 sq. ft.
It has been a long process, but the organization’s hard work is finally paying off.
South Philly Food Co-op is hosting an event at Adobe Cafe on Tuesday, November 15 at 6 p.m. to make the announcement. You can RSVP here.
Check back next week for a location reveal.
Years and you still want a hand out to shop in this overpriced market just reveal the dam location and be done with it. Drama just to food shop no thanks.
You don’t gotta party if you don’t wanna.
Wild guess…Quartermaster Plaza?
Snyder Plaza in the old Shop Rite would be nice
No way. Way too big and therefore way out of their budget. Plus, I thought the building had ‘issues”, and Shop Rite had to find a new local?
Coop will probably be some small store front in the strip mall, where people can drive over and pick up their CSA’s…
