Mamma Maria Ristorante hit with Health Code Violations

A couple of weeks we found out that the building that’s housed Mamma Maria Ristorante for 25 years was now up for sale. And while we did learn that they were staying open, Mamma Maria Ristorante received a visit from the Philadelphia Department of Public Health on April 12th.

Mamma Maria Ristorante health code violation

It wasn’t good.

35 violations, 11 serious.

Among them: Employee washed hands in wrong sink; pink slime inside ice machine; no soap in men’s room; grain beetles observed crawling on bar in the bread drawer; uncovered cakes in the refrigerator;  mice feces on food prep shelves, on dining room floors; on service area walls and in refrigerator compressor compartment; tongs touching rim of trash can; cluttered basement. Ordered to close for minimum of 48 hours on Apr. 12.

The good news – we heard from Mamma Maria’s, prior to the Health Department visit, that they will be open to celebrate their 25th anniversary ad have a big party planned.

Of course I try not to believe everything the media and or newspapers say because things usually get twisted around and or gets blown out of proportion. I’ve been there to eat a few times and what I can say is that the food was good and the bathroom clean. Usually if the bathroom is good, then teh kitchen perhaps is good too.

How about taking down your false story that they are closing?? At least change the headline…
