Cheu guys plan dim sum spot called Bing Bing in old El Zarape

The crew behind Center City’s Cheu Noodle Bar’s plan for their new restaurant in the former El Zarape space will involve dim sum, reports Foobooz.

Owners Shawn Darragh and Ben Puchowitz are renovating the wedge-shaped restaurant at 12th and Passyunk, which will have space for about 50 seats inside and another 30 outside. Says the blog:

Darragh told me that the 50-seat (plus another 30-seats outdoors) restaurant will be called Bing Bing. Bing is Cantonese for dumplings and Bing Bing is just more fun to say. The former El Zarape will be a dim sum house with a large selection of dumplings and buns.

The plan is to have the new place up and running by Labor Day. They already have their liquor license on the way, so that’s good news, too. And thank god they’re not calling it what the liquor license app says: Dumpling Fantasy.

    Bing Bing – as in “Bing, Again” – wonder if the owners are fans of the classic Groundhog Day… “I did the whistling belly-button trick at the high school talent show? Bing! Ned Ryerson, got the shingles real bad senior year, almost didn’t graduate? Bing, again!”
