Vaping trend making its way onto Passyunk Ave.
A new vape shop called Cloud N9NE Vapor is opening at 1832 E. Passyunk Ave., continuing the boom in this new kind of store.
The shop, across from the Giardello statue and King of Jeans building (yes, that project is still happening), was most recently the Record Bar, which didn’t exactly have the biggest following.
Back in December, we reported about another vape store called E-Cigg opening in a former deli on 10th Street. A couple weeks later, we told you about two other stores that opened near South Street. We can think of at least three others that have opened since in South Philly — so many that it’s makes you wonder how many vapers are out there.
Better than an empty storefront, right?
Ugh. These places suck. They’re worse than a Cricket Cell Phone store. That one on 10th St. is nothing more than eyesore and a hangout for who knows what.
Hopefully the fad will soon pass. It’s already banned indoors, once the FDA regulates it, they’re all done.
Oh wow… You mad Ant? Something doesn’t fit into your neighborhood Ant? Some slop business is going to bring bums into YOUR neighborhood Ant? Awwww…. Poor guy. JUST BE GLAD THEY DON’T PAINT THE FACADE PISS YELLOW!!! Like your precious beer distributor on Snyder… Disgrace!
Awful. Looks totally out of place in the neighborhood now and I’m sure this is nothing but a glorified head shop. Can’t wait for this trend to die out.
Acer hit the nail on the head! Glorified head shop is all it is. Notice the required “curtain” blocking the window?! Real nice. Same thing at the 10th St. store.
I’m not defending this place whatsoever, because I also agree that it is not the right fit for the avenue, but its actually insulting to compare these “chemical” ridden vapor pen people to a “glorified” head shop. seriously. no self respecting pothead would be caught dead in a “VAPE SHOP” and may I just add that when Creep Records (which sells mostly records with a very small smoking accessory selection behind a curtained closet-sized room) was interested in getting the old Sweet Jane, (what happened to the office in there anyway? retail space didn’t work out?) there was no consideration whatsoever. There wasn’t even a blink of an eye before they were told no. Interestingly enough, not too long after that, what now became the Bring your Own Hookah? place next to POPE has smoking accessories next to Buddha statues in the window that are clearly visible, but bc they are rarely open, I’ve never had the chance to go in and ask how they get away with it. I’m very confused about the way this avenue operates, and in 2 months when I move to passyunk ave from the italian market, you better believe you will see me at every civic assiociation meeting fighting to keep retail cysts like this OFF our avenue.
Awww… Look who sounds angry! Where were you when they put the place in? Why didn’t you have a meeting with your neighbors? I thought you guys had it all together up by your end of the neighborhood? Where’s all that self proclaimed proactive do it yourself activism you boast about?
I’m going to give the vap-ers themselves the benefit of the doubt and just consider that they are people who enjoy smoking e-cigs who want to hang out with other people who do the same in a common gathering spot. But, geez, have you walked past the one on 5th Street just south of South on a Friday night? It’s what I imagine a 19th century opium den to have been like. You can hardly see five feet past the front door from all the “vapor” in the air.
So… people in the store… meh, to each his/her own. The look of the store itself… yikes!
I noticed this craphole while walking around this morning and thought “oh god no”. Just when this stretch of Passyunk was starting to get classy, this nonsense comes in.
I think it’s really cool how they incorporated the number 9 into the word Nine in the logo.
@Adam: huh? Becuase the 9 looks like a g? Cloud Ngne Vapor?
My guess is they were high.
RIP record bar. I used to get my freestyle mixes there in the early 90’s.
I can remember buying John Lennon’s “Mind Games” LP at the Record Bar when I was maybe 12 …
Yeah record bar could also make you a CD with your song list mixed in to each other without skipping a beat between songs…
How are these places getting money? Is there a tax loophole or something, or some sort of kickback program with a vaporizer manufacturer? It seems like the saturation would make it impossible for any of these stores to turn a profit.
Not needing to own a car frees up a lot of money for people to buy vaporizers… LMFAO!!!
Don’t hate what you don’t understand. You people are so stuck on stupid. Do your research before trash talking like a bunch of broke business owners.
