Everyblock hyperlocal aggregator returns to Philly

The hyperlocal Everyblock aggregation site that closed last year has been revived by Comcast.

Technically Philly reports that Comcast doesn’t plan on making money off the venture but that the relaunch is part of the company’s local media efforts, “which are viewed as ‘community investments.'”

Says the blog:

Users can choose a neighborhood or a custom region of Philly, like, say N3rd Street, and grab widgets or a WordPress plugin to include an EveryBlock feed of that specific locale. Developers will also have access to the EveryBlock API.

The site incorporates more content than the previous iteration, Wright said, including open data from the City of Philadelphia, like a feed of 311 complaints. Comcast plans to add more city data going forward.

You can customize your search area, which is pretty convenient, just try not to freak out about how much crime is reported within close proximity to your house.
