Grab some food & booze while raising $$ for Columbus Square Park’s redesign
The forces behind the proposed $3 million redesign of Columbus Square Park are throwing a rooftop cocktail party on Sept. 12 to raise money for the effort.
Organizers expect more than 150 people at the party, to be held across the street on the rook deck of Wharton Street Lofts at 12th and Wharton. The $25 ticket price will get you complimentary wine and beer, and the event “will highlight many of the delicious tastes of the ‘Avenue’ (Passyunk) and beyond,” according to a press release.
A cellist and a saxophonist from the neighborhood will class up the joint . Organizers also plan to outline the fundraising campaign and unveil its new website.
The redesign is to include more community green space, a new multipurpose playing field with a better irrigation, additional storm water run-off conservation, a refurbished playground area with new water features, picnic areas and large and small dog parks.
The effort was previously awarded a $300,000 but Ilene Wilder, the fundraising committee chair, says they are exploring public funding, foundational support and corporate sponsorship to fill the rest of the gap.
“But this initial event is to get the local community, who will benefit the most from the park revitalization, to learn more about the project and really inspire them to get behind the project – through sponsorship opportunities, cash donations, and volunteering,” Wilder said.
