Lumber Liquidators will replace PennDOT Driver License Center in Pennsport
When the PennDOT Driver License Center Tasker Street and Columbus Boulevard packed up shop and moved to Whitman in June, it left a large building in a key area of Pennsport just ripe for exciting development.
According to Dr. Jim Moylan of the Pennsport Civic Association, it will become a Lumber Liquidators flooring store. A press release from Soloff Realty and Development provides the terms of the deal.
“Lumber Liquidators signed a 10-year lease valued at more than $1.8 million for the 6,235 sq. ft. freestanding building.”
A permit was issued in July for the property at 1530 S. Columbus Boulevard “for use as a consumer goods (hardwood floor – retail) on existing one story structure.” Crews have been on site performing work on the building’s interior and neighbors report seeing a “tenant obtained” sign on the property.

It’s an interesting development considering the area is full of flooring specialists, with IKEA, Lowe’s, Home Depot and Avalon Flooring all being a few blocks away.
“We are always glad to have a viable active business that can compliment the community instead of an empty eye sore,” Moylan said. “We will work to ensure they are a good neighbor and focus on their community involvement. As always, we don’t want businesses ‘in’ our neighborhood, we want them to be ‘part’ of our neighborhood.”
Soloff Realty expects the business to be open sometime in the late fall.

That is going to create a gigantic headache for that intersection. Between the fact that the light at Tasker favors Columbus Blvd traffic (as it should), the gas station and Wawa, and the bus that stops at Tasker/Columbus and holds up traffic along Tasker, it’ll create quite a clusterf*ck. Throw in trucks with lumber, DIY-ers who rented a truck for the first time and people with 2x4s sticking out the back of their car trying to turn left to get to Columbus via Tasker…
You’re telling me you think it will cause more traffic problems than the DMV (?!?!?) where drivers without licenses were circling the blocks there and the parking lot was always filled with cars?
