What’s that liquor license hanging out at 10th and Wharton?
We’ve gotten multiple emails from readers checking in about the liquor license hung at the corner of 10th and Wharton St., the former home of The New Leaf floral shop.
So, what’s up with this corner space just steps from Capitolo Playground?
To be honest, we’re not entirely sure. The applicant listed on the license is C+W Investments LLC for an “eating place retail dispenser” at 1248 S. 10th St.
According to city records, the building was sold on June 2 for $515,000. An outdated listing on Loopnet says it contained four apartments — two studios and two one-bedroom units — over the ground floor retail. There are no current zoning or building permits for the property as well.
We reached out to members of the Passyunk Square Civic Association, who don’t have any further info on the plans for the space at this time. Jared Klein, PSCA’s Zoning Chair, did mention that the building is zoned CMX-1, which would require a zoning variance if the intended use for the space is as a restaurant, most likely resulting in a meeting with the PSCA down the line.
For now, it looks like we have a little bit of a mystery on our hands.
