New restaurant from Gennaro’s Tomato Pie will be called Grace & Pat’s
In October we broke the news about Gennaro’s Tomato Pie closing up their current location at 1429 Jackson St. and replacing Da Vinci Ristorante at 1533 S. 11th St. According to owner Mike Giammarino, the plans have changed and the current location will remain open as Gennaro’s, but this new restaurant, to be called Grace & Pat’s, will open in this larger location just off of E. Passyunk Ave. and will serve a different style of pizza.
The restaurant is paying homage to Giammarino’s grandparents, Grace and Pat, both in name and menu.
The style of pizza, which Giammarino called “grandma style” because his grandmother made it for him as a kid, is a rectangular pizza that falls somewhere between the style of pizza Gennaro’s serves, a thin New York-style neapolitan and Sicilian pizza. While the pizzas are clearly the main attraction because of the popularity of Gennaro’s, there will also be other appetizers, salads, pastas and desserts. The pastas that will be on the menu are inspired by those his grandfather Pat made.
The new restaurant will have 50 seats on the first floor and 40 more in outdoor seating. Although the restaurant will start out as being a BYOB, Giammarino is considering a liquor license, with the potential for a bar on the second floor.
Although delivery won’t be offered right off the bat, Grace & Pat’s hopes to offer the service in the future.
Giammarino is aiming for a mid-April opening for Grace & Pat’s.
Thrillist named Gennaro’s the best pizza in the entire state of Pennsylvania, so it’s pretty safe to say that this will be a new pizza place worth trying.
I can’t wait to see how many people driving around lost looking for Pat’s and Geno’s get confused by this.
The resemblance to Pat’s & Geno’s IS striking. What with the lack of neon and that fountain out front. I may inadvertently stop in an ask for cheesesteak on my way to Acme!
I’m just saying why would you name it that when it’s a 1/4 mile from the tourist trap cheesesteak places. Anyone who lives in South Philly gets stopped by some visitor driving aimlessly asking for Geno’s at least twice a month.
Just what south philly needs one more over priced pizza joint. Dress it up flip it up over what ever you call it its the same as the other 8 on the ave lets think out of the box people.
@Ken: You’ll find the Olive Garden is at 1346 Chestnut. Enjoy!
Its Pizza don’t take it so personal Anthony G
@ Anthony G, It seems as if you have no problem dishing out nasty comments about other places, but can’t take any negative comments about this new pizzeria restaurant opening Why don’t you give up wirh your Olive Garden comments, its getting old now!! There’s been talk that you even may be related to Gennaro’s owners, why don’t you keep your opinions to yourself and not ruin it for this place before it even opens up!
@Anthony G. Yea don’t take it so personal! BTW… Your Olive Garden remarks are getting old!
@Gracie (A & B): I have no connection, I don’t even know anyone associated with it. That being said, sorry you don’t have the capacity to appreciate a new type of pizza. Papa John’s is on Broad, right below Washington, I’m sure you’ll be happier. Ciao!
A new type of Pizza ? How would you know what this new type of pizza taste like ? And is if the location is not open yet ? And you have no association with owners. That being said, your capacity to think that your pizza is the only new type of pizza on the avenue speaks for itself.
@Ken, I take it you can’t read. They already have a place on 14xx Jackson St. (which you living in NJ, probably couldn’t locate on a map).
Have you ever been on E. Passyunk? There are 3 pizza places, Stogie’s/Marra’s/Britgentessa. All different. Put your track suit on and check it out!
Don’t forget Birra gurl I live on the ave so your comments of nj are pointless just like your post and your new pizza
@ Anthony 😉
