Updated renderings for 20th and Wharton development
Plans to demolish the vacant warehouse at 20th and Wharton were presented last year, with the intention to build 22 homes in the warehouse’s place.
Updated plans and renderings for this project are now here, with some changes being made, including the addition of parking to the project.
The project includes 22 homes, which according to last year’s plans, will be 1,800 sq. ft. and have 3 bedrooms, a roof deck and a finished basement. New renderings show that the roof decks will also have green roofs.
Since last year, some changes have been made to the plans. One of those changes being to the plans for parking. When first presented, a major opposition was regarding the development’s decision to not have parking. Because of this, in the updated plans there will be 1:1 parking allocated to the units.

This will mean a drive-aisle off of Wharton Street, but there’s already a curb-cut so it won’t impact the current parking environment. In addition, the mansards are gone but there’s some new architectural variety between the units. Finally, per the request of some people in the community, the first floor space will remain active to maintain eyes on the street.
What are your thoughts on this project?
The anti-gentrification hysterics are already in full swing. Flyers already being handed out on how this will “price everyone out of the neighborhood.”
EXACTLY this. “Looks nice” or “does not look nice” are really the only comments anyone should have about this. I guess people prefer to live next to a run down warehouse that’s a breeding ground for some upstanding citizens because its “their hood.” People need to drop the crap already.

I agree about the trees… They could use some trees like the kind they have in Girard Estates area… Perhaps the foliage was left out of the artists rendering by mistake?

I mean… The places look great. I don’t see any cheap metallic siding bump out looking things… There is a back drive through ally space for vehicles… Just from the look of it, one can tell that they have done everything within reason to address aesthetics and parking concerns… I like it and wish they would build something like these at the site of the old brush factory. at 12th & McKean.

Yes please!!! I am sure they will put trees, it’s just a rendering. It will only do good to the neighborhood!
