Spotted: Isaiah Zagar mural being installed on South Philly Barbacoa’s new location
This episode of Spotted comes courtesy of a loyal reader. Like that friendly neighborhood tipster, if you see something, say something – in an email to punk@passyunkpost.com.
The white exterior of South Philly Barbacoa’s new location at 1703 S. 11th St. is being transformed with a new mural from Isaiah Zagar.
A friendly neighbor sent this picture of the pieces of the mural being installed on Wednesday.
South Philly Barbacoa was previously located at 8th and Watkins with a food cart. At the end of June, the cart closed to prepare for this bigger move to Vegan Commissary’s former storefront.
Prior to opening their cart in 2014, South Philly Barbacoa was proposed to open in Zagar’s mural warehouse. Since they never opened up shop there, it’s only fitting that they get the proper Zagar treatment on this new spot.
Benjamin Miller, co-owner of South Philly Barbacoa, told us that since they’re renting the space, the pieces of the mural are being bolted on.
Very nice. I retract my comment from the previous board.
So no more calling for the association to give them a fine?
Love the addition. Walked by this last night. The main sign needs to be reworked but I believe my prior comment about the WIC cards and Fruit/Vegetable can be retracted as well.
Bravo!
Nice! That was really fast!
