Check out odd postcards from the ’50s and ’60s at this East Passyunk Avenue Fringe Festival event

The past two winters, you have probably seen the windows of the large home at East Passyunk Avenue and Tasker Street decorated with images of neighbors and the celebrities of East Passyunk Avenue’s past.

While the holiday season is still a bit far off, you’ll have a chance to check out some other work from Kate Mellina, who is one of the artists behind those window decorations, at these upcoming Fringe Festival performances.

This Fringe Festival show, titled, “Are We There Yet? Roadside Delights of the 1950s and 1960s,” is a fast-paced slideshow of postcards of road-side oddities. You know, things like room-sized loaves of bread, dinosaur parks, houses built from bottles and more.

Over time, Mellina has collected these postcards from flea markets, antique centers and postcard shows. She originally planned to collect two unusual postcards from each state, but says, “Let’s just say I now have enough cards for about 500 states.”

You can check out this performance at Mellina’s studio at East Passyunk Avenue and Tasker Street on Tuesday, September 8 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, September 13 at 5 p.m. Tickets are $5.
