Check out improved East Passyunk Community Center at open house this week

Plenty of changes have been happening at the former Tolentine Community Center.

For one thing, it’s now called the East Passyunk Community Center, but that isn’t the only new thing happening here. If you’re interested in checking out the improvements that have been occurring at the center at 11th and Mifflin, you can head on over to their Fall Fling Open House on Thursday, October 29.

Tolentine had run the community center here for 25 years, but this summer the city decided not to renew their lease. Now Parks and Recreation runs the facility, with hopes of making it more accessible once again. While the changes to the facility aren’t all happening overnight, things seem to be improving. For one thing, some of the shrubbery that hid the community center has now been removed, making the space look much more open and accessible. You can read more about future plans for the facility here.

If you want to check out some of these improvements, you can do that and more at this upcoming open house. There will be food, pumpkin decorating, a magician and more.

The event is being held on Thursday, October 29 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the East Passyunk Community Center at 1025 Mifflin St.

When are the gates coming down? I am tired to going all the way to Mifflin Triangle to cruise for rough trade at night.

Pumpkin decorating? Magicians? No one with kids lives in this neighborhood. This is the New Gayborhood, so how about something for the LGBT community?

Plenty of kids live in this neighborhood. A community center should serve all neighbors. Just give them time to develop their programs. If you are looking for something in particular, attend an event and speak with the director.
