Five-course eating and drinking tour of East Passyunk Avenue
It’s normal to stop in one of the abundance of great restaurants on East Passyunk Avenue for a multiple-course meal with a reservation, but how about a five-course meal, with each course at a different restaurant?
Zagat rounded up five restaurants for you to “spend an evening exploring this South Philly stretch of culinary talent from the comfort of no-reservations bar seats.”
So what spots made the list?
Course 0ne: Happy Hour at Palladino’s, 1934 E. Passyunk Ave. Stop by between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays or between 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. on weekends. Happy Hour specials include $5 wines and $7 cocktails.
Course two: Pastas at Le Virtu, 1927 E. Passyunk Ave. Zagat recommends trying Chef Joe Cicala’s maccheroni alla mugnaia.
Course three: Dim Sum at, you guessed it, Bing Bing Dim Sum, 1648 E. Passyunk Ave. The relatively new-to-the-avenue location serves a variety of asian-inspired dishes. The article recommends the miso ramen pork soup dumplings.
Course four: Tastes at Townsend, 1623 E. Passyunk Ave. Enjoy the cocktail menu here from bartender Keith Raimondi and sommelier Lauren Harris.
Course five: Dessert at Brigantessa, 1520 E. Passyunk Ave. For your final course, Zagat recommends the Cassata Siciliana, which is a Southern Italian sponge cake, filled with pistachio cream, along with buffalo ricotta and candied fruit.
The whole roundup is worth a read, so head over to Zagat to check it out.
Course One: Happy Hour at Chiarella’s
Course Two: Pasta with fruit flies at Chiarella’s
Course Three: Cigarette break at Chiarella’s
Course Four: Angry owner tirades at Chiarella’s
Course Five: Fight club in the Acme parking lot
Possibly the funniest thing I have read all week. Thanks for the laugh.
Best. Comment. Ever.
FWIW, the “Chiarella fight club” usually took place at the Fountain, around 2 AM.
