Stretch of Columbus Boulevard could be renamed for Easy Company’s Guarnere and Heffron

In September a memorial statue for Babe Heffron, a WWII veteran who was a member of the Easy Company portrayed on HBO’s “Band of Brothers,” was unveiled in Pennsport.

Now a stretch of Columbus Boulevard from Washington to Oregon could be renamed in honor of two members of the Easy Company, William J. Guarnere and Edward “Babe” Heffron, who were also South Philly natives.

A bill passed by the Pennsylvania Senate Tuesday would rename a stretch of a Philadelphia roadway after two World War II veterans who were portrayed in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers.

The legislation would dub the stretch of Columbus Boulevard between Oregon and Washington avenues William J. Guarnere and Edward “Babe” Heffron Memorial Boulevard in honor of the highly decorated South Philly natives.

Next step is Governor Tom Wolf’s approval of the renaming of this portion of Columbus Boulevard. Both Guarnere and Heffron have passed on, but their legacy lives on, especially in South Philadelphia.

    I’m all for recognizing Bill & Babe, place a statue at City Hall.

    But, for the love of Christ, stop looking for names for DELAWARE AVE. Just change it back.
