Snow cleanup continues, especially on South Philly’s smaller side streets
As expected, parts of the city are still a mess from this weekend’s blizzard.
While most of the major roads have been cleared, some of South Philly’s smaller side streets are still suffering.
More from Philly.com:
In South Philadelphia, snow was piled a couple of feet deep on streets like Percy, Darien, Mildred, and Beulah, between 6th and 10th streets.
On Ritner, a Mercedes-Benz was mired in snow, blocking in neighbors who said they couldn’t get to work.
It wasn’t until about 4:15 p.m. Sunday that a city front-end loader came to shovel out snow on Porter Street near 10th. But neighbors said that was because it was clearing the way for a tow truck to haul out a burned-out car stuck in the middle of Porter. The car was burned completely – with no seats visible and the tires melted away.
How are your streets looking? If your road has yet to see a snow plow, call 311 or email Philly311@phila.gov to report it to the city.
A gentleman in a backhoe was clearing our small street (west of Broad) until after 11pm last night. Hard, tedious work! I also saw a couple headed down Broad this morning at 6:40. It’s a long process clearing out the little streets one by one.
Side streets around Bok off 8th street got bulldozers around 1-2am today. Given that we had about 3-4 foot drifts, likely the only equipment that could push that kind of weight.
The side streets in my neighborhood (Bella Vista) are being plowed. I’ve lived here for twenty years, and this is the first time I’ve ever seen this done. In the past, the folks who reside on the smaller streets have had to shovel themselves out or wait for the spring thaw.
I emailed a request in yesterday morning to Philly 311, and when I got home from work last night, my tiny side street was completely plowed.
Gee, these pictures make me appreciate my “hood” in North Jersey, Paterson, to be exact !
If we all had flamethrowers this wouldn’t be an issue.
