Take a look at schoolyard improvement designs for Childs, Kirkbride and Girard Schools
Since October, we’ve been sharing with you the progress of schoolyard designs for three South Philadelphia schools that would be receiving updated designs for their play and learning spaces thanks to a program through the Big Sandbox, the Knight Foundation, TBS and students from the University of Colorado and Iowa State University.
After a few months of the design process, including feedback from students, parents and community members, the final design boards are completed for George W. Childs Elementary, the Stephen Girard School and Eliza B. Kirkbride School.
The designs for all three schoolyards incorporate a mix of playing and learning environments. The plans feature outdoor classrooms, more greenery, new play equipment and overall transform these schoolyards from boring asphalt to interactive, colorful and engaging environments.

Just this year, Taggart and Chester Arthur also completed schoolyard renovations, refreshing their outdoor spaces for children to use for years to come.
YESSSSSS! Thank gosh there are finally going to be trees in and around Stephen Girard. West Passyunk ave is dying for some greenery to be infused into the area
