Eddie Lang mural installed at 7th and Fitzwater, to be dedicated on Sunday

Back in February plans for a mural of musician Eddie Lang were presented at a Bella Vista Neighbors Association meeting. Now eight months later, that mural, titled Eddie Lang: The Father of Jazz Guitar, is coming to life.

This week, the mural was installed at 7th and Fitzwater, in preparation for the unveiling and dedication on Sunday, October 23.

The mural by artist Jared Bader depicts Eddie Lang playing with a band. This is the second music-related mural to go up in South Philly in recent weeks.

Why this location? Richard Barnes, a member of a 1920′s-style band that plays tribute to artists like Lang, presented the idea for this piece to the Mural Arts Program because of Lang’s upbringing and the influence of the Bella Vista neighborhood in which he lived.

The event on Sunday will run from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Expect live music, food and more in honor of Eddie Lang.
