Quick Hits: Pricier parking meters?; Later, Pancho’s; W. Passyunk fundraiser
And we’re back. Thank you all for your kinds words and condolences last week. It meant a lot during a trying time.
- City Council is considering raising parking meter rates on commercial corridors outside Center City from 50 cents an hour to $1 an hour, reports the Daily News.
- City Paper has some intel on what happened with Pancho’s Grill, the Mexican place at 7th and Passyunk that briefly opened amid licensing issues and disputes with neighbors.
- The West Passyunk Neighbors Association is throwing a fundraiser on Thursday at Miss Rachel’s Pantry, 1723 W. Passyunk Ave. The $35 cover charge includes food, margaritas and beer.
Unless they can wrest control of the PPA from the statehouse, and properly fund the schools with the money, there should be an uproar over this. But of course, everyone is just gonna shrug and nothing will happen. The PPA is such a scourge on our great city. Talk about a job that pays too much… There is NO WAY a slob who walks around and writes tickets should get better pay and benefits than someone working a job at McDonald’s! I hate to even look at them when they’re around. BUMS!
Most of the time the PPA are just ticketing people who are parked illegally, or haven’t paid the insanely low meter rate. Not sure how that counts as “a scourge on our great city”. Unless utter lawlessness is your thing.
I say put a realistic price on parking. And charge on Sundays, too. And start towing the delivery guys at Isabellas Pizza that park straight up in the middle of the street. That crap is a scourge on our city.
This is a GOOD thing. Parking is too cheap, business owners/employees parking their cars on Passyunk Ave. is silly. Take the bus/sub or pay up.
