Art-inspired theatrical performance to be held in May at Southwark/Queen Village Community Garden
On Sunday, May 8 and Monday, May 9, you’ll have the chance to experience a South Philly community garden in a new way.
Renegade Company and Spirit Forward are bringing together theater and cocktails inspired by a famous painting. Hieronymus Bosch’s “The Garden of Earthly Delights” will serve as inspiration for the performance at the Southwark/Queen Village Community Garden at 311 Christian St.
What exactly does a community garden performance entail? Renegade Company aims to bring this painting to life, allowing the audience to feel as though they’re within this piece of art. The theater company want this performance to “celebrate, challenge, and deconstruct the iconography of quintessential artworks.”
The cocktail portion of the evening, from Spirit Forward’s Dan Hamm, is meant to further enhance this theatrical experience. The drinks will draw inspiration from the artwork and performance itself, along with the setting of the community green space.
Each night will have two performances, one at 5 p.m. and the other at 6:30 p.m.
General admission tickets include the performance, cocktail tastings and food for $25. VIP tickets are $50 and include the general admissions offerings, plus a special cocktail and a discussion with the performers after the show. You can find out more and purchase tickets here.
