Attend these South Philly Love Your Park Week events
Since access to green space can be so limited in Philadelphia, the appreciation for the parks and gardens we have is pretty important. That’s where Love Your Park Week comes into play.
The week of May 7 through 14 is meant to show appreciation to these spaces with events that promote cleaning and greening, along with some celebrating.
Here’s a roundup of events:
- Bainbridge Green, 4th and Bainbridge. What’s happening here? The public space that is slated to be redesigned will be seeing some more activity on Sunday, May 15. Attend to help paint a picnic table or to assist with planting. Find out more here.
- Chew Playground, 1800 Ellsworth St. What’s happening here? A plant sale, children’s playtime and cleanup with kickoff the week on May 7. Other cleanups will also be hosted throughout the week in preparation for a larger cleanup on May 14. Find out more here.
- FDR Park, 1500 Pattison Ave. What’s happening here? On Saturday, May 7 a cleanup event with tasks big and small will be happening in this large park in deep South Philly. The event will convene at the Boathouse at 9 a.m.
- Manton Street Park, 4th and Manton. What’s happening here? On Saturday, May 14 Manton Street Park and Community Garden will be hosting a Family Fun Fest. Expect some free food, crafting for kids, the Heinz Wildlife Rescue, local businesses like MoJo’s Pop Co. and D’Emilio’s Old World Ice. More information is here.
- Marconi Plaza, Broad and Oregon. What’s happening here? This park will be hosting a cleanup on the morning of Saturday, May 14. Later in the day there will be a spring festival with pony rides, music, face painting, food and more. Find out more here.
- Mifflin Square, 6th and Ritner. What’s happening here? An event for cleaning, gardening and painting will be hosted on Saturday, May 7. The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia is also stopping by for a “Bicycle Rodeo,” which includes bike safety lessons and an obstacle course for kids. More information is here.
- Stinger Square, 32nd and Reed. What’s happening here? This Grays Ferry park will play host to a Mother’s Day event with gifts, food, music and games. More information is available here.
