Doc’s Union Pub to become Mifflin Tavern, expected to open in January

Doc’s Union Pub at 2nd and Mifflin has been sold.

In the new year, the former electricians union hangout will be updated to become Mifflin Tavern, a bar with more than 80 beer options and an affordable food selection.

From Billy Penn:

New owners of the building at at Second and Mifflin are business partners Bill McKeever and Anthony Giordano, who are overseeing a super-quick renovation that will transform the space into a completely new restaurant called Mifflin Tavern — potentially open by New Year’s Day.

Smart striped awnings surround the corner entrance, while inside, white quartz counters look striking against black walls. Hardwood floors are being laid this week. A 10-tap beer system will be installed, and the kitchen has been expanded and outfitted with new equipment to cook a full menu of apps, sandwiches, burgers and pierogi. A second-floor dining room leads to a deck that will be outfitted with heat lamps.

I just sold my bike, whats that say about me? Shut up stupid. The FBI raided them in August…. Its December…. Crickets…. Where is the American public’s outrage at the FBI for blowing MIllions and utilizing massive government resources going after a nobody. Its been more than 10 years of investigating. I think the guy is clean, you may not like his tactics but the guy is clean.

Not having charges brought against you in federal court =/= being “clean.”

I was just making a bad joke, thank you for this though, I am in stitches.

How long was Fattah investigated? No charges in 4 months don’t mean much.

        • December 21, 2016 at 4:12 pm

Correct 4 months isn’t much, but you have to add the time before the raid because an investigation doesn’t start with with a search warrant. Its been going on since 2006, the first time the union’s office was raided was 2006.
          10 years…. no results.
Either the FBI is absolutely impotent or the guy is “clean”.

Given that he’s one of the biggest political bundlers in the state, it makes sense to take some time to build a case. From the tone of your response, it’s obvious you don’t care about the facts no matter where they eventually come out. As far as political entities go, the unions tend to be their own worst enemy.

Not surprising. Now all the neighborhood teenagers will have to find another bar not to get carded at.

So, this owner “hears” that new year’s day is “something” down here….oh dear, good luck, and I mean that.
Meanwhile Billy Penn omitted one of the best “new” bars in Pennsport, the 2nd St. Brewhouse. It may not be as upscale for food (but, the food is decent!) but it’s got the best spirit and the best beer list, which is always balanced and very good.

Agreed! Been going to 2nd St. Brew House since 2011 when it was rebranded from whatever silly name it had before. Outstanding beer selection (and some of the best prices in the city). Food is decent (especially from when they first started serving food) and overall it’s a nice chill spot to watch a game, have a burger and throw back a good craft beer. Even better that most of the mummers riff raff seem to avoid the place and let us “hipster” have a cool hang out 🙂

Never understood why J. Doc allowed his name to remain on this notorious place thereby giving what appeared approval of what went on there.
