What’s the deal with Pad Thai in Queen Village?
We passed by Pad Thai at 604 S. 2nd Street recently and saw something a little odd. It’s definitely closed, but is it for good?
For one, the wooden sign over the main entrance was gone and the exterior of the building was clear of all things Pad Thai, save for a menu resting in the window. The curtains were almost completely drawn to a close. Even more concerning was that there was a “sorry we’re closed” sign hung on the door during prime dinner hours.
We’ve tried multiple times to get confirmation, but their voice mail is full, so no dice. A quick scan of Grub Hub, Seamless, Menu Pages and Yelp doesn’t offer any clues, either.
Of course, there are a couple reasons why the place could be dark. It’s possible that Pad Thai has indeed closed. We’ve also heard there could be renovations in the works, given the new glass door minus the wooden signage, but can’t nail that down either. Do you know what’s going on at this joint? for the love of god i hope it’s only renovations
if i remember correctly, they pulled the same thing last year and it turned out they were on vacation. i remember calling to put in an order, only to find the mailbox full, and it was closed when trying to go in person. then a few weeks later i called and they answered. meanwhile i was having a meltdown thinking that the best pad thai i’d ever eaten would be gone forever. they need to stop playing with our emotions like this!
Walked by on Sunday. There’s a new neon sign up that says Pad Chili. They’ve also put a banner up along the window and posted a large menu in the window. I can’t tell if it’s the exact same menu or owners though.
They were on vacation earlier in the summer ( I tried to order online and was given that message), a few weeks later I passed by and noticed a sign in the window that said they were doing improvements for a new and improved Pad Thai. This was weeks ago.
My girlfriend did a little search on grub hub and came across this : https://www.grubhub.com/philly/pad-chili/
The exact same menu, pretty much, from Pad Thai, just with a different name. I am wrong in assuming they are going to open up again just under a new name, because why else would they go through the trouble of changing their name on grubhub? Hopefully the menu is the same and it’s just a rebranding
Called them today…and they are open! this is good news!
So I went to Pad Chili, formerly known as Pad Thai, last night to see if their food was indeed the same. And yes, it is just a rebranding and the restaurant has been remodeled. The pad thai is exactly the same, and I was very relieved! I have to admit, I miss the old decor, but Pad Thai was always empty anytime I went there, so I can understand that maybe the rebranding is a way to attract more customers.
