Video: Popular Mechanics features NextFab in new “Startup Cities” project

NextFab, the maker-space located at 2025 Washington Ave., is billed at “Philadelphia’s Gym for Innovators.”

While some people workout with dumbbells or treadmills, members at NextFab utilize 3-D printers, auto-CAD systems or simply rent tools they can’t store in their tight row home to create something or launch a business. It speaks to the burgeoning start-up culture that we’re seeing take shape in Philadelphia. It’s spaces like NextFab that make it possible, so much so much in fact, that classic tech-mag Popular Mechanics recently took note and featured it their “Startup Cities” project. 

The video interviews NextFab’s Founder and Owner Dr. Evan Malone, as well as David Bookspan of DreamIt Ventures and Technical.ly Philly‘s ever-present lead reporter Julianna Reyes.

Today, 20 employees support NextFab’s 500 members, and the makerspace — which has all of the tools to design and prototype a product, including 3D printers, a milling machine, a laser cutter — has added a business-incubation program for makers turning their ideas and creations into startups.
