South Philly PHS pop-up gardens expected to open this weekend
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society is hosting not one, but three pop-up gardens this summer and two of those just so happen to be around South Philly.
Last year’s pop-up garden at 1438-46 South St. is returning again this year and a new pop-up garden is coming to 9th and Wharton. These two gardens are both expected to be open before the end of the weekend.
In just three weeks, the 9th and Wharton lot has been transformed from just a garbage-strewn lot near Pat’s and Geno’s to pop-up garden status. This lot will feature food and drink from the people behind the newly-opened Triangle Tavern, Cantina and Royal Tavern. You can of course expect beer, but also cocktails, wine and food with Italian influences. While you’re at the garden, you can also check out one of the art reproductions posted on the fencing surrounding the garden as part of the Inside Out exhibit from the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
According to PhillyMag, it seems as though the pop-up garden here will open at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 29.
The South Street pop-up garden, returning for a second year, will open Thursday, May 28.
Looking for another pop-up garden to check out this summer? There’s also a pop-up beer garden in Point Breeze this summer from the owner of American Sardine Bar.
Are you excited to check out these pop-ups?
Walked by the 9th & Wharton one on the way home yesterday afternoon, they were already open!
As usual, they did a great job with this. It’s a very nice amenity for the summer. That corner is now 1000x nicer.
