New details on Schroeder’s Fabric Row restaurant, to be called Hungry Pigeon
In January we told you about the new restaurant coming to Fabric Row from Scott Schroeder, the chef at South Philly Tap Room and American Sardine Bar.
We have new details about the restaurant, to be called Hungry Pigeon. It’s opening at 743 S. 4th St. in the location that briefly housed Jack B. Fabrics after their location across the street was destroyed in a tragic fire in April 2013.
Schoeder and partner Pat O’Malley, a pastry and bread specialist at Balthazar Bakery, plan a casual cafe that will offer counter service during breakfast and lunch, with a waiter service taking over at dinner time featuring a menu of regular plates and family-sized portions.

For all of Schroeder’s well-publicized meat dishes, he really is a vegetarian at heart, so vegetables will figure heavily. The menu will “not be a contest to see how much meat we can put on the table,” Schroeder said, adding that pigeon will be served. …
… As for the alcohol lineup, Schroeder said, “Philly does not need another beer bar.” Hungry Pigeon will include draft wines.
The restaurant will serve Ultimo coffee and some of O’Malley’s signature pastries.

They will preview it at a party June 22 at Vetri, July 10 at Cook and July 12 at a “Feed the Pigeon” pot luck event with a silent auction at Isaiah Zagar’s mosaic warehouse at 1002 Watkins St. to raise money for the draft wine system they’re hoping to get for the spot. We don’t have an exact opening date for the restaurant just yet, but they seem to be aiming for the fall.
This isn’t the only thing happening on Fabric Row. The area is expected to see more changes soon with $1.3 million in streetscape improvements.
