East Passyunk Avenue to be transformed into winter wonderland with first-ever ice festival this weekend

You had the chance to see art reproductions on East Passyunk Avenue over the summer, so how about some ice sculptures for winter?

Arctic Ave will be bringing professional ice sculptors to the streets of South Philly on Saturday, December 12.

Throughout the day you’ll have the chance to see these ice artists from Fear No Ice transform ice blocks into intricate, yet meltable, pieces of art. Once the pieces are completed, there will be more than 35 ice sculptures along East Passyunk Avenue outside of some of your favorite shops and restaurants.

Later in the day you’ll have the chance to participate in a scavenger hunt for the chance to win a $100 shopping spree. At this time, there will also be a vote for fan-favorite design.

While most of the day will be about family fun, there’s a chance to participate in a bar crawl at 15 restaurants and bars in the neighborhood to try out some holiday-inspired cocktails.

Here’s a full schedule for the day from BID:

11:00 AM – East Passyunk Indian Head at the Gateway (East Passyunk Avenue at Broad and McKean Streets)

12:00 PM – Re-Gifting Joey Giardello at Mifflin Triangle

3:00 PM – Mega-Sized Santa Chair at 12^th and Morris Streets

4:00 PM – Singing Fountain replica at the Singing Fountain, which will have been transformed into a giant Christmas tree

7:00 PM – Ice Carving Battle at Cheesesteak Corner (9^th Street and East Passyunk Avenue)

At 7:00 p.m., two professional ice carvers will go head-to-head at Cheesesteak Corner, battling it out with dueling cheesesteak sculptures, one representing Pat’s King of Steaks, and one representing Geno’s Steaks.
