Get ready for cats and coffee: Kawaii Kitty Cafe is opening this week

In the fall the hype began for what could become the first cat cafe for Philadelphia. Now an opening date is set for Kawaii Kitty Cafe, which functions both as an adoption center and coffee shop on Fabric Row.

On Saturday, June 25 the grand opening celebrations will begin at 759 S. 4th St.

The cat cafe is separated into two spaces. One room is the designated cat room, with the PAWS adoptable kitties and pink and other pastel accents throughout. The other portion of the shop is for your beverage needs. This space is the crisp and clean contrast to the cat room. Co-owner and chef Joe Ronca considers the contrast of the two spaces as a “Japanese tea house v.s. Disney World.”

Since Kawaii Kitty Cafe is expecting the opening celebration to be high in demand, they’re already booking reservations online for time in the cat room. To visit the cats, you can pay $5 for half an hour of time, or $10 for the full hour. There are as many as six to ten cats in the room at any time.

There will also be a grand opening party this weekend with wine, food and access to the cat room. If you’re looking for that exclusive access right away, you’ll have to pay $75. You can book those reservations here.

Hours for the cafe are from Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. through 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
