‘Sneak Peek’ event announced for under-construction Pier 53 park

The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation will host a “sneak peek” event at Pier 53/Washington Avenue Green on Saturday, June 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

You may remember that this event was alluded to earlier at the history lecture held at the Mummer’s Museum in May. The event will touch on the impressive history of the pier as an immigration station as well as focus on the ongoing construction efforts. There will also be take-home arts and crafts available for children.

Plan Philly has the details of the construction efforts:

Workers have stabilized the pier, removed invasive vegetation and begun working on the boardwalk that will allow future park visitors to reach the water’s edge, said Planner/Project Manager Lizzie Woods of the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, the quasi-city agency leading this project and overseeing the redevelopment of the Central Delaware.

They’ve also started the foundation for the Land Buoy art installation by artist Jody Pinto, who was inspired by the immigrant history. The art piece itself is being fabricated off-site, Woods said.
